UMMRA Programs

Business Meetings: The full membership is invited to attend business luncheons in October, February and April.†† In addition to taking action on UMMRA projects, such as the new mini-grant program, members hear speakers discuss topics of interest, such as Energy and Being Green at UMM, Minnesota Climate Change in the Next 100 Years, and The State of UMM - the Chancellorís annual update of at the spring annual meeting.†† Meetings are held at the Prairie Inn, UMM, or other convenient locations. †

First Thursday Luncheons:† From September through June, those who wish to meet for lunch on the first Thursday of each month can catch up on each othersí news and sometimes take a tour together of a nearby point of interest.† In the winter months we stay near Morris.† In warmer weather, we travel to Terrace Mill, Alexandria, Ortonville, or other† towns within an hourís drive.†Luncheons

Annual Reception for Faculty, Staff and Retirees: UMMRA sponsors an elegant reception at the LaFave House in the late afternoon preceding the spring retirement banquet. We honor new retirees, returning retirees, and the UMM community. †

UMMRA Info Newsletter: With generous support from the Chancellor, UMMRA publishes a newsletter during each season of the year.† The newsletter is sent to ALL retirees in summer and to paid UMMRA members in fall, winter and spring. It contains messages from the Chancellor or UMMRA president or newsletter editor, information about upcoming UMMRA or other events, news of membersí activities, and membersí stories about UMMís early years.† Newsletters

UMMRA Mini-grants: A maximum of three grants, amounting up to $350 each, will be awarded annually at UMMRAís fall business meeting.† The purpose of the program is to support a retireeís research, or research-connected travel, or both.† Mini-Grants

Volunteer Services:† From our beginning, UMMRA members have provided needed workers for a variety of activities.† The West Wind Readers read to residents of West Wind Village a half-hour each week.† Volunteers help staff the Ice Cream and Lollipops community art program for pre-schoolers through second grade.† UMMRA members act as guides for campus events, such as New Student Orientation and Graduation.† Contact Cathy Kemble (795-2290) or Bernice Erdahl (589-9007) for more information.
